Latrobe Valley Bus Lines (LVBL) is a family company committed to providing professional bus services in the Latrobe Valley and surrounding areas for more than 50 years. LVBL is the only bus company in Australia and New Zealand to have achieved B Corp Certification.

Why did your business become a Certified B Corporation?

LVBL work hard to be innovative and forward thinking. We researched and discovered BCorp Certification provided us with an assessment tool that allowed us to view our companies impact on our environment and community. B Corp certification has provided a benchmark, motivating us towards continued improvement.

What changes did you make during the certification process?

We became more aware and conscious of the business ethics of our supply chain and local procurement processes. Certification provided the opportunity for us to celebrate the volunteering hours and supportive roles our of staff. Our certification forms a significant part of our company strategic plan.

What are the positive impact your business has on environment, workers, and/or community?

LVBL introduced an Australian first Hybrid Euro 6 route service bus in 2018. Hybrid technology significantly reduces harmful particulate and carbon being emitted into the atmosphere. Hybrid technology is silent when operating on battery, allowing for greater passenger and driver comfort and reduced noise in urban built up locations. LVBL depot operate solar and have rain water collection and reuse facilities.

LVBL operate a staff foundation, staff can nominate to contribute a percentage of their weekly wage to the foundation. Biannually Kindred Spirits Enterprises matches the staff contribution and donations are made to a charity selected by the staff. Kindred Spirits Enterprises is committed to supporting appropriate education for all in Latrobe Valley, especially the first years for better, healthier and equitable opportunities.

Do you have impact improvements planned?

Working towards influencing the broader transport industry to implement Euro 6 and Hybrid bus technology. Working towards our Supervisors having the opportunity to volunteer their time during their worked paid hours at local not for profit charities and organisations.

What benefits have you experienced from being a Certified B Corporation?

Networking with other BCorps. A high environmental, community and worker standard, allow us to aim for continual company improvement. Keeping our community connected through good service and engaging health and well-being initiatives.
